1. CREATING OPPORTUNITY by Jim Rohn

An enterprising person is one who comes across a pile of scrap metal and sees the making of a wonderful sculpture. An enterprising person is one who drives through an old decrepit part of town and sees a new housing development. An enterprising person is one who sees opportunity in all areas of life.

To be enterprising is to keep your eyes open and your mind active.  It's to be skilled enough, confident enough, creative enough and disciplined enough to seize opportunities that present themselves... regardless of the economy.

A person with an enterprising attitude says, "Find out what you can before action is taken." Do your homework. Do the research. Be prepared. Be resourceful. Do all you can in preparation of what's to come.

Enterprising people always see the future in the present.  Enterprising people always find a way to take advantage of a situation, not be burdened by it. And enterprising people aren't lazy.  They don't wait for opportunities to come to them, they go after the opportunities.  Enterprise means always finding a way to keep yourself actively working toward your ambition.

Enterprise is two things. The first is creativity.  You need creativity to see what's out there and to shape it to your advantage.  You need creativity to look at the world a little differently.  You need creativity to take a different approach, to be different.

What goes hand-in-hand with the creativity of enterprise is the second requirement: the courage to be creative. You need courage to see things differently, courage to go against the crowd, courage to take a different approach, courage to stand alone if you have to, courage to choose activity over inactivity.

And lastly, being enterprising doesn't just relate to the ability to make money.  Being enterprising also means feeling good enough about yourself, having enough self worth to want to seek advantages and opportunities that will make a difference in your future. And by doing so you will increase your confidence, your courage, your creativity and your self-worth - your enterprising nature.

To Your Success,
Jim Rohn

2. Vitamins for the Mind by Jim Rohn

SOPHISTICATION

One of the early signs of sophistication is not giving way to all inclinations but rather sending your emotions to school so they will learn how to behave.

Money doesn't make you sophisticated. Only study and practice make you sophisticated. Even people of modest means can become sophisticated because it is within study and practice. How much is a night out at the symphony? About thirty dollars. You say, "Poor people can't afford thirty dollars to go to the symphony." Yes, they can. It's only thirty Hershey bars!

We must teach our children not to spend their money a dollar at a time. If you spend your money a dollar at a time, you'll wind up with trinkets instead of treasures. You can't buy much of value a dollar at a time.

Most people are just trying to get through the day. Sophisticated people learn how to get from the day.

Sophistication is understanding the difference between trinkets and treasures.

Don't spend major money on minor things. In the last ten years the guy has bought two tons of donuts and only two books - and the books are primarily filled with pictures.

Sophisticated people don't leave early. The man says, "Yeah, but I want to beat the traffic." Isn't that a great skill to have - beating the traffic!

3. Clear Objectives - More Powerful Results From All Presentations by Tony Jeary - Mr. Presentation

For years I have coached many of America's top CEO's.  I have worked with over 500 organizations from over 35 countries. I have worked with all levels of positions from sales, to management to executives to entrepreneurs. I have found that no matter our career choice, we all have to make presentations. As a matter of fact, I believe "Life is a Series of Presentations" and the skill set is frankly overlooked and really is an undiscovered secret to success in both business and life.

As I have coached and trained over the years one of the core elements I find people often skip when preparing for presentations (that causes the pain of not getting the audience to fully buy-in) is lack of clear written objectives. I speak to this issue in whole chapters in many of my books.

Let me share with you a few highlights in a simple process that should help you with your next important presentations.

Think of a funnel - at the top is all the possible things you can share in your presentation  (many people share way too many things... we all know that). At the bottom of the funnel are your core objectives of the talk  - as you go down the funnel from the top, here are 5 steps to consider:

Step 1 - Define the actions you want the audience to take as a result of your talk.

Step 2 - Define your audience (backgrounds, age, frame of reference, and mental mindset, etc.).

Step 3 - Clarify the needs of your audience (basically what's in it for them).

Step 4 - Begin to write out 3 or 4 phases that will become your objectives starting with an action word like share, communicate, inspire, motivate and then follow the action word with what you want to accomplish. For example:  "Share the highlights of.... ", or, "Communicate the specific time line of....", or, "Inspire the attendees to...". You get the picture, three or four simple phases beginning with an action word.

The Final Step 5 - Mentally test your objectives and outline with others - perhaps someone who knows your audience and/or knows your subjects and have them give you a One-minute critique so you end up with a clean & clear set of tested objectives.

If it's clear in your mind, then your ability to gain buy-in and your confidence level will always be much higher.

4. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Each week or so we take a specific or frequently asked question to or about Jim Rohn and provide the answer!

Q. What experience or encounter in your life has influenced you the most?

A. Well, probably starting with my parents who raised me in the Christian tradition. My mother and my father made sure I was a pretty good Bible scholar by the time I was 18-19. It laid the foundation for my own faith and I recommend it. They taught me morality, treating people fairly, having faith in the future, belief in God, a lot of prayer, so many things that have served me well all of these years.

There were some teachers along the way in my school. I remember especially a history teacher that made history come alive. Some teachers just matter of factly teach and give you the information, but this history teacher especially made history really work for me.

Then it was exciting when I first had the chance to start traveling around the world and visiting the places that I had studied as a kid in my history classes. I remember the first time seeing the Sistine Chapel, Michelangelo's works, St. Peter's in Rome, the Piazza masterpiece probably the greatest masterpiece of all time; in Florence, seeing David, another masterpiece by Michelangelo. I had a list of the pictures in the history book and then to have a chance to go look, to see in person was unbelievable.  Then the Parliament building in London where great leaders have come and gone, then the Louvre in Paris where I first saw the Mona Lisa. Some things fill in the history books and the great paintings of the world but then it is another thing to see it in person like the Louvre in Paris.  I remember in Italy seeing the Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci and so many others, those places were incredible. The Eiffel Tower in Paris when you finally get to see it live then the Acropolis in Athens, my first visit to Jerusalem having gone through all the history and then to actually go and walk the streets and meet the people. Those influences of teachers, parents are very valuable.

Then of course, in my business influence, meeting Earl Schoaff when I was 25 years old. He taught me how to start with what I had and go as far as I wanted to go. He taught me the art of personal development, work harder on yourself than you do on your job. Success is not something you pursue but something you attract becoming an apprentice. He taught me a unique business skill that changed my economic perspective for the rest of my life and then he taught me how to design the future.

He taught me the definition of capitalism. Capital is any value set aside to be effective in an enterprise that brings value to the marketplace hoping to make a profit. It is incredible to think you could put the whole idea of capitalists which is a person, capitalism which is the process and capital which is the value set aside to be invested; you put all of that together in one sweeping sentence is incredible. Liberty brings capitalism which is now sweeping the world.

He taught me how to make a presentation, find a product of value, present its merits to someone in the marketplace, get them to say yes, follow up. He taught me the art of recruiting, finding good people, so many things.

"I received my Jim Rohn "Weekend Event" 2 days ago and I have not been able to stop watching it! I literally have thousands of dollars of audio/video programs in my library and this is, by far, the very best I have ever seen! Jim was at the top of his game and you captured it on DVD for the world to see. The guests were at the top of their game and you got all of that too. I was very disappointed that my schedule would not allow me to attend the event. After watching the DVD's for two solid days, I'm no longer disappointed because I feel like I was just there! The absolute magic of it all is that I will have this amazing, life changing, totally awesome program with me for the rest of my life. I can't thank you, Jim, the other speakers, and everyone else behind the scenes enough for the excellent, outstanding effort. It is my sincere opinion that if someone were to pay $10,000 for this package, they still got the deal of the century!"
Warm Personal Regards, Ron Henley

8 Bonus sessions:

- Zig Ziglar, at his very best, speaking on "Surviving in a Tough Economy" and "How to Make Every Day the Day Before You Go On Vacation".

- Day 1 VIP lunch with Jim Rohn and Zig Ziglar. Absolute magic, one for the ages! Zig and Jim answer questions related to raising kids, major definite purpose and the meaning of success and spirituality. This was an opportunity to hear the private thoughts of two legends in the Personal Development industry - well worth the price of admission.

- A special teenager session with Jim Rohn and interviewer Kym Yancey. It was an unbelievable sight, seeing teenagers fill the first several rows, and hundreds of other attendees staying as well (this was hosted at the end of Day 1). The questions from Kym and the teenagers were "on the money" and Kim was in his element sharing the ideas that changed his life with a young impressionable audience. Charlie "Tremendous" Jones practically stole the show with a special 15-minute appearance, as he read the daily letters he had received from his son while he was away at college. The letters were a result of the many book reports his son had been paid to do by Mr. Jones on the great personal development books of the past as well as the classics.

- Saturday VIP breakfast and a one-hour talk by "Mr. Presentation" Tony Jeary, on what else? - Presentations. Again, training from the man who coaches the presidents of Ford, New York Life and SAM's Club was worth the price of admission.

- Special guest presentations by Bob Burg, John Hayes, Jan Ruhe, William E. Bailey, Charlie "Tremendous" Jones and Jeffrey Gitomer combined to give almost 3 hours of power packed ideas and strategies for success.

- Day 2 VIP lunch featuring Charlie "T" Jones, Bob Burg and Tony Jeary. Again, another home run as they share the power-packed ideas that have helped them achieve extraordinary success.

- The Sunday Mastermind session with Jim, the special panel and 100 Platinum attendees. The ideas were in great abundance. (Even during the editing process our editor kept stopping the video to write down the ideas that flowed, from both the panel and the impressive group of Platinum's gathered from around the world.) This session alone is worth the price of the entire package!

- DVD 8 is one more bonus of over three and a half hours. Throughout the event on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, we worked behind the scenes putting together special interviews - 9 total. Interviews include Kym Yancey and Alan Rothman with Zig Ziglar, Charlie Jones, Tony Jeary, Jan Ruhe, Bob Burg, Jeffrey Gitomer, Don Sanders, John Hayes and William E. Bailey. Again so many great, useable ideas!!!

PS - We believe these 21 hours of footage will be the most powerful, life-changing and results-oriented DVD/video you will have in your film library, and it will continue to pay dividends for decades to come. In addition, the 20 CD's give you the ability to listen to the information and strategies over and over again in your car.
