1. LIFE IS WORTHWHILE IF YOU... by Jim Rohn (Excerpted from the Jim Rohn Two Day Weekend event - June 22 and 23, 2001)

1) First, life is worthwhile if you LEARN. What you don't know WILL hurt you. You have to have learning to exist, let alone succeed. Life is worthwhile if you learn from your own experiences, negative and positive. We learn to do it right by first sometimes doing it wrong. We call that a positive negative. We also learn from other people's experiences, both positive and negative. I've always said it is too bad failures don't give seminars. We don't want to pay them so they don't tour around giving seminars. But the information would be very valuable – how someone who had it all, messed it up. Learning from other people's experiences and mistakes.

We learn by what we see - pay attention. By what we hear – be a good listener. Now I do suggest being a selective listener, don't just let anybody dump into your mental factory. We learn from what we read. Learn from every source. Learn from lectures, learn from songs, learn from sermons, learn from conversations with people who care. Keep learning.

2) Life is worthwhile if you TRY. You can't just learn; you now have to try something to see if you can do it. Try to make a difference, try to make some progress, try to learn a new skill, try to learn a new sport. Life is worthwhile if you try. It doesn't mean you can do everything but there are a lot of things you can do, if you just try. Try your best. Give it every effort. Why not go all out?

3) Life is worthwhile if you STAY. You have to stay from spring until harvest. If you have signed up for the day or for the game or for the project - see it through. Sometimes calamity comes and then it is worth wrapping it up. And that's the end, but just don't end in the middle. Maybe on the next project you pass, but on this one, if you signed up, see it through.

4) Life is worthwhile if you CARE. If you care at all you will get some results, if you care enough you can get incredible results. Care enough to make a difference. Care enough to turn somebody around. Care enough to start a new enterprise. Care enough to change it all. Care enough to be the highest producer. Care enough to set some records. Care enough to win.

Four powerful little words: learn, try, stay and care. What difference can you make in your life today by putting these four words to work?

To Your Success,
Jim Rohn

2. Vitamins for the Mind by Jim Rohn

HEALTH by Jim Rohn

Some people don't do well simply because they don't feel well.

Some people take better care of their pets than they do themselves. Their animals can run like the wind and they can barely make it up a flight of stairs.

Make sure the outside of you is a good reflection of the inside of you.

Treat your body like a temple, not a woodshed. The mind and body work together. Your body needs to be a good support system for the mind and spirit. If you take good care of it, your body can take you wherever you want to go, with the power and strength and energy and vitality you will need to get there.

Take good care of your body. It's the only place you have to live.

REPUTATION by Jim Rohn

Each of us must be committed to maintaining the reputation of all of us. And all of us must be committed to maintaining the reputation of each of us.

Accuracy builds credibility.

The Bible gives us a list of human stories on both sides of the ledger. One list of human stories is used as examples – do what these people did. Another list of human stories is used as warnings - don't do what these people did. So if your story ever gets in one of these books, make sure they use it as an example, not a warning.

It only takes one lie to taint your entire testimony in a court of law. Honesty is a vital part of having a good reputation.

Vitamins for the Mind is a weekly sampling of original quotes, on a specific topic, taken from The Treasury of Quotes by Jim Rohn (TTOQ). TTOQ, a beautiful, burgundy hardbound book with gold foil lettering, is a collection of over 365 quotes on 60 topics gathered from Jim's personal journals, seminars and books spanning over 37 years. To order or to get more information on TTOQ by Jim Rohn or Excerpts from TTOQ by Jim Rohn or Brian Tracy, please click on the Online Catalog.

3. FIVE STEPS TO EFFECTIVE FOLLOW-UP by Omar Periu

For years, the experts have been saying that effective follow-up can increase your sales ratios by as much as 30 percent or more. If this is true, why is it that less than 10 percent of the salespeople follow up? Well, we could blame it on their lack of time or desire, and for some that might be the case—but only for some. The simple fact is, most salespeople have never been taught how to effectively follow up. They’ve weighed the benefits and see no real reward to following up. So, would it be worth it to you if you could make one more sale a week? Would it be worth it to you if you could obtain one qualified referral a week? Would it be worth it if that statement was true and you really could increase your income by 30 percent?

If you’re saying “YES,” “YES,” “YES,” then let me show you five easy steps to effective follow up. There’s no magical follow-up formula, but rather a commitment to proven systems that bring consistently positive results. Let’s take a look at the five steps.

1. Ask investigative questions that give you a reason to follow up. Make a commitment to ask at least three questions that will let you know what will move your potential customer to make a decision.

2. Find something you have in common with the customer, making your follow-up contact memorable. It could be hobbies, likes, philosophies, principles, etc. Just something that will let them know you can relate to them on their level.

3. Make a friend of the customer; nobody minds being contacted by a friend. This doesn’t mean you must invite them to your daughter’s wedding. It might be something as simple as smiling, enjoying their sense of humor, sharing a flaw or weakness, etc.

4. Speak to your customers’ dreams; send them pictures and information that help them to imagine themselves as more successful and happy people for using your product or service. Find out what your customers dream about then become a player in their dreams. For example, a customer’s dreams is to own a speedboat, send them a subscription to a speedboat trade magazine and a reminder of how your product or service could give them more time or money to be doing what they dream of.

5. Practice at least five different methods of follow-up. Call, write, fax, email or drop by. It can be that simple. Just make a commitment to follow up at least five times before you move on.

And finally, just to prove how beneficial effective follow up can be, start tracking the results of your follow up strategies and then simply continue to do what brings you the greatest success. Start today! Focus on the Five Steps to Effective Follow-up and find success.

Omar Periu and his family fled Castro’s regime in Cuba when he was only seven years old. They arrived in Miami, and his family had no money, no other relatives or friends in America and nothing but the clothes on their backs. Thus began Omar’s journey of success in the land of freedom and opportunity.

He went on to become a self-made multi-millionaire before the age of 31, owning some of the most profitable health clubs, sports medicine facilities and many other entrepreneurial successes in the United States. In addition, the past 16 years Omar has been teaching and training salespeople throughout the US and the world, how to reach the top 5% in the industry. For more information about Omar and to see Omar live in seminar with Jim Rohn see Section 4 below.

4. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Each week or so we take a specific or frequently asked question to or about Jim Rohn and provide the answer.

Q. Jim likes Bible quotes. How would Mr. James reply to the following?

"For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. (1 Tim 6:10 KJV)" Thanks, Paul

A. I have referenced that scripture before and it is my personal belief that it is the "love" of money that is the root of all evil but not necessarily money itself. In fact I believe money can be a powerful tool for good (similar to power - yes, power does tend to corrupt, but power in a honorable man or women's hands can be a instrument for good). In past articles (see below for an excerpt) I have mentioned that it is my belief that most success-minded people have gotten past the acquiring of money simply to just have more things - and that it is in the giving back that we are representing in part the command to be fruitful.

"Fruitful is kind of an interesting word; it denotes abundance. Here's what I think fruitful, abundance and productivity mean - to go to work on producing more than you need for yourself. I think we fulfill that command given to us so long ago to be productive, to produce far more than we need for ourselves, by blessing others, blessing our nation and blessing our enterprise...I am reminded of R.G. LeTourneau's story, the man who built the big earth moving machines; it was his goal to someday give away 90% of his income. Giving away far more than anyone could possibly imagine. 90% is an awful lot to give away, but you should have seen the 10% that was left."

Hope this helps. JR

"Sincerity is not a test of truth. We must not make this mistake: He must be right; he's so sincere. Because, it is possible to be sincerely wrong. We can only judge truth by truth and sincerity by sincerity." Jim Rohn

"Very few of us are authorities on the truth. About the closest that any of us can get is what we hope is the truth or what we think is the truth. That's why the best approach to truth is probably to say, "It seems to me..."" Jim Rohn
