Read All the Books by Jim Rohn All of the books that we will ever need to make us as rich, as healthy, as happy, as powerful, as sophisticated and as successful as we want to be have already been written. People from all walks of life, people with some of the most incredible life experiences, people that have gone from pennies to fortune and from failure to success have taken the time to write down their experiences so that we might share in their wealth of knowledge. They have offered their wisdom and experience so that we can be inspired by it and instructed by it, and so that we can amend our philosophy by it. Their contributions enable us to reset our sail based upon their experiences. They have handed us the gift of their insights so that we can change our plans, if need be, in order to avoid their errors. We can rearrange our lives based on their wise advice. All of the insights that we might ever need have already been captured by others in books. The important question is this: In the last ninety days, with this treasure of information that could change our lives, our fortunes, our relationships, our health, our children and our careers for the better, how many books have we read? Why do we neglect to read the books that can change our lives? Why do we complain but remain the same? Why do so many of us curse the effect but nourish the cause? How do we explain the fact that only a small percent of our entire national population possesses and utilize a library card - a card that would give us access to all of the answers to success and happiness we could ever want? Those who wish for the better life cannot permit themselves to miss the books that could have a major impact on how their lives turn out. The book they miss will not help! And the issue is not that books are too expensive! If a person concludes that the price of buying the book is too great, wait until he must pay the price for not buying it. Wait until he receives the bill for continued and prolonged ignorance. There is very little difference between someone who cannot read and someone who will not read. The result of either is ignorance. Those who are serious seekers of personal development must remove the self-imposed limitations they have placed on their reading skills and their reading habits. There is a multitude of classes being taught on how to be a good reader and there are thousands of books on the shelves of the public libraries just waiting to be read. Reading is essential for those who seek to rise above the ordinary. We must not permit anything to stand between us and the book that could change our lives. A little reading each day will result in a wealth of valuable information in a very short period of time. But if we fail to set aside the time, if we fail to pick up the book, if we fail to exercise the discipline, then ignorance will quickly move in to fill the void. Those who seek a better life must first become a better person. They must continually seek after self-mastery for the purpose of developing a balanced philosophy of life, and then live in accordance with the dictates of that philosophy. The habit of reading is a major stepping-stone in the development of a sound philosophical foundation. And in my opinion it is one of the fundamentals required for the attainment of success and happiness. To Your Success, 2. Vitamins for the Mind by Jim Rohn Happiness Learn how to be happy with what you have while you pursue all that you want. Happiness is not an accident. Nor is it something you wish for. Happiness is something you design. How sad to see a father with money and no joy. The man studied economics, but never studied happiness. The greatest source of unhappiness comes from inside. Happiness is the art of learning how to get joy from your substance. Happiness is not something you postpone for the future; it is something you design for the present. ================================================== 3. The Roadmap To Success (Part 1) by Bob Burg The Roadmap To Success, covering five separate and distinct areas, is based on just three very simple concepts: #1 Seek out and find the information In this article, we'll look at the first of these three and discover how it can help you succeed in your business; in particular, your Network Marketing business. #1 Seek out and find the information The very name of this program, "The Road Map To Success" pretty much clues you in as to the direction I'm going here. If you want to get to the "Diamond" mine, you first see if there's a map with directions. Typically, in Network Marketing, we refer to this as "The System." If you follow the system (the Road Map) that has been put together and utilized by those who are already successful (where you want to be) there's a good chance you'll reach your goal, and reach it faster. Since "Systems" have proven to be such a key to Network Marketing success, let's ask why, and look at the major benefit of a system: "Systems permit ordinary people to achieve extraordinary results, predictably. Without a system, however, even extraordinary people find it difficult to achieve even ordinary results, with predictability." Interesting, isn't it? Systems permit ordinary people to achieve extraordinary results, predictably. Wow! If that's true -- and it's certainly proven to be many times over -- wouldn't you want to get your hands around that system? Another name for "The System" or "Roadmap" could be, "O.P.E.", which stands for "Other People's Experience." If someone else has already done it, all you have to do is model, or duplicate, just what they did. Success is "in the bag." While there are some whose ego will not allow them to benefit from the knowledge of others, those who become truly successful are only too happy to do so. Probably the "line" that gets the biggest laugh at my live seminars is, "I've never had an original thought... in my life!" The thing is, I'm proud of that. Oh, it's not that literally we can no longer be creative or have our own thoughts. It's that we realize that our creativity is built around the fundamentals, the basic strategy, or roadmap, to success. Remember, before Michael Jordan was doing double twisted reversed slam dunks, he first learned from someone else - a coach - how to dribble. One of the best examples of a successful system is McDonald's. There's a reason why people will join a waiting list, pay a million dollars for a franchise and move their entire family to open one wherever available knowing that they won't see a payoff for several years... and it "ain't" because the hamburgers taste so good. :-) It's the system. McDonald's has a proven system - a roadmap - that basically says, "If you follow it, you will succeed." Of course, in Network Marketing, you get the benefits of a McDonald's franchise without paying the hefty fee, uprooting your family, and having to wait several years to become profitable. Recently I was speaking in Barbados and the night before, at dinner with my clients, I was sharing my "Roadmap/System" analogy regarding McDonald's. At the end, one gentleman said, "Bob, aside from the beauty of our island and the kindness of our people (both of which I found to be true) we have one other claim to fame; we in Barbados had the only McDonald's franchise that never even got off the ground. It failed within a very short period of time." I laughed and replied, "Well, there goes that theory." Then, practically right away, he responded, "Not at all. You see, it's well known here that the franchisees absolutely refused to follow the McDonald's system as they were directed. Now, what those ill-advised franchisees did was to directly go against a system that would most likely have made them rich. But, whether someone directly resists following the system - or roadmap - or simply fails to take actions for other reasons, the results will usually be the same. Failure. That can be avoided, and success can be achieved when taking the right course of action. And we'll get to that in the next segment.
