1. One of Life´s Great Lessons – Learn to be Thankful for What You Already Have by Jim Rohn (excerpted from the New Jim Rohn Weekend Event DVD/CD series)

Is thankfulness a survival skill? Perhaps most of you would respond with, "No, Jim, thankfulness is not key to survival", and I would tend to agree with you. Most of us have probably already solved the necessary problems of survival, gone beyond that and are now working to achieve our desires. But let me give you this key phrase, "Learn to be thankful for what you already have, while you pursue all that you want." I believe one of the greatest and perhaps one of the simplest lessons in life we can learn is to be thankful for what we have already received and accomplished.

Both the years and the experiences have brought me here to where I stand today, but it is the thankfulness that opened the windows of opportunities, of blessings, of unique experiences to flow my way. My gratitude starts with my parents who raised me, gave me an incredible foundation that has lasted me all of these years and continues with the mentors that I've met along the way who absolutely changed and revolutionized my life, my income, my bank account, my future. I am also very thankful for the people, the associations, for the ideas, for the chance to work and labor, and to produce results, all of that has brought me to this place, to this weekend.  I'm grateful for it all.

What a unique opportunity each one of you here has, so many of us; representing different countries, nations and cultures, to appreciate the uniqueness of our own experiences that has brought us all here, together, for these three days to learn new skills and sharpen old ones. For the countries we represent; we have freedom and liberty. These are extraordinary times, about eleven years ago the walls came tumbling down, in Germany, and it started a wave of democracy and freedom like the world has never seen before. We as a country and as a world have so much to be thankful for. Always start with thanksgiving; be thankful for what you already have and see the miracles that come from this one simple act.

Now thankfulness is just the beginning; next, you've got to challenge yourself to produce. Produce more ideas than you need for yourself so you can share and give your ideas away. That is called fruitfulness and abundance. Here's what I think fruitfulness and abundance mean - to go to work on producing more than you need for yourself so you can begin blessing others, blessing your nation and blessing your enterprise. Once abundance starts to come, once someone becomes incredibly productive, it's amazing what the numbers turn out to be. But to begin this incredible process of blessing, it often starts with the act of thanksgiving and gratitude, being thankful for what you already have and for what you've already done. Begin the act of thanksgiving today and watch the miracles flow your way.

It is better to be a lender than a spender.

To become financially independent you must turn part of your income into capital; turn capital into enterprise; turn enterprise into profit; turn profit into investment; and turn investment into financial independence.

Financial independence is the ability to live from the income of your own personal resources.

If you depend on your company to take care of your retirement, your future income will be divided by five. Take care of it yourself, and you can multiply your future income by five.

I remember saying to my mentor, "If I had more money, I would have a better plan." He quickly responded, "I would suggest that if you had a better plan, you would have more money." You see, it's not the amount that counts; it's the plan that counts.

If you were to show me your current financial plan, would I get so excited by it that I would go across the country and lecture on it? If the answer is no, then here's my question: "Why not"? Why wouldn't you have a superior financial plan that is taking you to the places you want to go?

I used to say, "Things cost too much." Then my teacher straightened me out on that by saying, "The problem isn't that things cost too much. The problem is that you can't afford it." That's when I finally understood that the problem wasn't "it" – the problem was "me."

The Bible says that it is hard for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of heaven. It doesn't say that it is impossible!

3. The Roadmap To Success by Bob Burg (Part 3)

The Roadmap To Success, covering five separate and distinct areas, is based on just three very simple concepts:

#1 Seek out and find the information
#2 Apply the information immediately. Knowledge without action is the same as having no knowledge
#3 Be persistent

In the first article, we discussed the fact that successful people seek out proven systems of success, the key word being "systems."  Systems permit ordinary people to achieve extraordinary results, predictably. Without a system, however, even extraordinary people find it difficult to achieve even ordinary results, with predictability." When learning a system, we are tapping into "OPE" (Other People's Experience).

In the second article we learned, however, that regardless of how good the system might be, you still must take action right away.

But there's still something that, without which, success of any significant measure can never be attained. And that is "persistence."

In this article, let's discover how this third concept can help you succeed in either your traditional, or Network Marketing business.

The Sages tell us that "the righteous (in this case, successful) person falls down seven times, but gets up eight." Since that was written many thousands of "moons" ago, we can assume that top achievers have been going through this "down and back up again" process since pretty much the beginning of time.

Some people will always point to luck as the reason why that other person is successful while he or she is not. But the achievers know that, more typically than not, luck really had very little to do with it. Perhaps this is more "visible" in the Network Marketing profession than anywhere else, though the principle holds just as true for traditional businesses as well.

If you ask those superstars in Network Marketing who have made it to the top of their field, have thousands of people in their organization and are earning a tremendous residual-based income, why they are where they are, they will usually first tell you that it's because they learned the system (part 1) and applied it (part 2).

Of course, you could then come back and say, "Well, sure, but a lot of people have done that. So, why are you such a huge producer and not them? What is the 'determining' factor?"

Here is what they'll tell you -- not just sometime, but practically -- every time, though in their own unique words:

"Those of us who have made it to the top level in the company have simply presented the product/opportunity to more people than those who are not yet here. We've been told "no" more times than those who are not yet here. And, thus, we've gotten more "yesses."

Ahh, "grasshopper," notice the second part of that explanation. They've been told "no" more times. Often they've been told "NO!" But, like the EverReady Bunny on television, they just kept on forging ahead.

Yes, sometimes the "no's" are so many and so consistent they remind us of that famous song from a few decades past that went, "No no no, no no nononono, no, nono, nono, no no, no, no, nononono . . .". It's so easy to get discouraged and quit when that happens. In fact, it's about the most natural thing for a human being to do. After all, avoidance of pain (and "no" can be a very big pain) is a very large motivating factor.

So, there needs to be a touchstone -- that which we can come back to every time we get discouraged and want to quit -- a desire that is so big; it's bigger than any "no" can possibly be. What is your touchstone? Is it a belief in the product? That it helps so many people that you must stay with it until you can positively affect x number of lives?

Is the touchstone financial freedom for you and your family? The financial ability to live where you want, in a huge, beautiful home; the choice to give lots of money to the religious and charitable causes in which you believe? How about being able to send your child to the school of your choice?

Is your touchstone the dream of never having to report to work for anyone else again and have to listen to them tell you when to come in, when you can leave, and how much you'll receive in wages for the work you do to make "them" rich?

I don't know. That's up to you. I do know that, for most of us, in order to stay persistent, we need something; a desire, a goal, a belief, a cause bigger than ourselves, that will pull us back up that eighth time after we get knocked down seven times.

Calvin Coolidge's famous poem told us that talent, education and genius were not enough to succeed big. "Persistence", he told us, "has solved, and always will solve, the problems of the human race."

One of my favorite poems is entitled, "How Did You Die" by Edmund Vance Cooke. Pay no attention to the title, just the last paragraph. I think it sums up our third and final concept, "persistence", beautifully. It reads:

"You are beaten to Earth,
Well, well, what's that?
Come up with a smiling face.
It's nothing against you to fall down flat,
but to lie there, that's disgrace.

The harder you're thrown,
why the higher you'll bounce.
Be proud of your blackened eye.
It isn't the fact that you're licked, that counts,
It's how did you fight and why.

Perhaps the key to your persistence . . . is the "why?"
