Four Words that Make Life Worthwhile by Jim Rohn (Excerpted from the Jim Rohn Weekend Event) Over the years as I've sought out ideas, principles and strategies to life's challenges, I've come across four simple words that can make living worthwhile. First, life is worthwhile if you Learn. What you don't know Will hurt you. You have to have learning to exist, let alone succeed. Life is worthwhile if you learn from your own experiences - negative or positive. We learn to do it right by first sometimes doing it wrong. We call that a positive negative. We also learn from other people's experiences, both positive and negative. I've always said that it is too bad failures don't give seminars. Obviously, we don't want to pay them so they aren't usually touring around giving seminars. But that information would be very valuable - we would learn how someone who had it all then messed it up. Learning from other people's experiences and mistakes is valuable information because we can learn what not to do without the pain of having tried and failed ourselves. We learn by what we see so pay attention. We learn by what we hear so be a good listener. Now I do suggest that you should be a selective listener, don't just let anybody dump into your mental factory. We learn from what we read so learn from every source; learn from lectures; learn from songs; learn from sermons; learn from conversations with people who care. Always keep learning. Second, life is worthwhile if you Try. You can't just learn; now you have to try something to see if you can do it. Try to make a difference, try to make some progress, try to learn a new skill, try to learn a new sport. It doesn't mean you can do everything, but there are a lot of things you can do, if you just try. Try your best. Give it every effort. Why not go all out? Third, life is worthwhile if you Stay. You have to stay from spring until harvest. If you have signed up for the day or for the game or for the project - see it through. Sometimes calamity comes and then it is worth wrapping it up. And that's the end, but just don't end in the middle. Maybe on the next project you pass, but on this one, if you signed up, see it through. And lastly, life is worthwhile if you Care. If you care at all you will get some results, if you care enough you can get incredible results. Care enough to make a difference. Care enough to turn somebody around. Care enough to start a new enterprise. Care enough to change it all. Care enough to be the highest producer. Care enough to set some records. Care enough to win. Vitamins for the Mind Change/Choice/Decision by Jim Rohn One of the best places to start to turn your life around is by doing whatever appears on your mental "I should" list. Indecision is the thief of opportunity. Every life form seems to strive to its maximum except human beings. How tall will a tree grow? As tall as it possibly can. Human beings, on the other hand, have been given the dignity of choice. You can choose to be all or you can choose to be less. Why not stretch up to the full measure of the challenge and see what all you can do? You cannot change your destination overnight, but you can change your direction overnight. Decision making can sometimes seem like inner civil war. I used to say, "I sure hope things will change." Then I learned that the only way things are going to change for me is when I change. Don't say, "If I could, I would." Say, "If I can, I will." It doesn't matter which side of the fence you get off on sometimes. What matters most is getting off! You cannot make progress without making decisions. We generally change ourselves for one of two reasons: inspiration or desperation. If you don't like how things are, change it! You're not a tree. ================================================== 3. It's Easy to Earn Money By Bob Proctor There is a very real possibility that everything you and I have been taught about how to earn money is so far from the truth that it's almost comical. Earning money has nothing to do with age, formal education, gender or geography. It has nothing to do with past experience or your formal years of education or your level of intellect. Check it out … there are individuals who are functionally illiterate who have become multi-millionaires, while there are others who are absolutely brilliant and they are broke. Virtually anyone can be taught how to earn millions of dollars and yet the sad truth is that 97 out of every 100 people are born, live their entire lives, and die without ever learning how to earn money. To perpetuate this ridiculous problem, their ignorance is passed along from one generation to the next. Our school system has been designed as an environment to enlighten young minds, to replace ignorance with understanding and thereby improve the quality of life. Our educational system has obviously been successful in many areas. However, it has woefully neglected one important subject, "How to Earn Money." You can earn a doctorate degree in economics and have little or no knowledge of how to earn money. A lack of understanding in this area is the cause of numerous unwanted and unnecessary problems, since money is the medium of exchange that is used worldwide for other people's products and services. There has always been a small, select group, approximately 3% of our population, who clearly understand that prosperity consciousness is the primary cause of wealth and their prosperity consciousness, like ignorance, is also passed down from one generation to the next. Let's look at "money." What is it? Money is a reward you receive for the service you render. The more valuable the service, the greater the reward. Thinking of ways we can be of greater service will not only help us earn more money, it will also enable us to grow intellectually and spiritually. Money Is An Idea I am aware there are books that instruct you on how to manipulate the market, stocks and people… they might even help you get money. But, let me caution you… when there is no spiritual growth… there is no spiritual strength… there is no lasting happiness… and, there is no real or lasting wealth. To accumulate wealth, a person must become very comfortable with the idea of money. That may sound strange, however most people are not comfortable with the idea of money, which is why they do not have any. The cause of poverty is poverty consciousness. A poverty consciousness will cause a person to see, hear, smell, think and feel ... lack and limitation. The late Mike Todd said, "Being broke is a temporary situation. Being poor is a mental state." He was correct. There are wealthy people who lose every cent they have through a series of mistakes in judgment … but that does not make them poor. They will have it all back in a short time because of their prosperity consciousness. If you have any question in your mind regarding your level of consciousness with respect to money, be very honest with yourself and look at your results. Study the patterns in your life. If you want to improve your financial position in life, focus your attention on creating a higher level of prosperity consciousness. Begin by preparing a powerful, positive affirmation and fuel it with emotion. When you do this, you are depositing this creative energy in the treasury of your sub-conscious mind. And, by repeating this process over and over and over again every day, it will begin to alter your conditioning and mentally move you in the direction you want to go. Write it out, read it, feel it, and let it take hold of your mind. How much money do you want? Saying you want more is not good enough. Five dollars is more. How much more? Decide on a figure. Be specific. You will not seriously want more money than you are capable of earning... however, you would be wise to remember, you must earn it. There Are Three Income Earning Strategies Investing money to earn money - This strategy is used by approximately 3% of the population. The number is small for the obvious reason - very few people have any money to invest. Many people who effectively employ this strategy follow the advice of a trusted, knowledgeable advisor. Leveraging yourself to earn money - This is where you multiply your time through the efforts of others by setting up Multiple Sources of Income (MSI). This is, without question, the very best way to increase your income. Make a decision to have many sources of income; it's the strategy that wealthy people have used dating clear back to the ancient Babylonians. Unfortunately, this strategy is only used by approximately 1% of our population, yet that 1% earns approximately 96% of all the money that is earned! You are only a decision away from membership. Once you determine how much money you want to earn, write it down on a sheet of paper in large figures. Look at the number with the dollar sign beside it and tell yourself over and over again: That Amount of Money is an Effect. You can take the total figure and divide it into multiple parts. Each part would represent a source of income. Each source of income represents a separate reward that you would receive for a service you would render. Work on one source of income at a time; each one can become an exciting part of your life. What you are actually doing is thinking of different ways you can be of service to others. Think of how you can do whatever you do - more effectively. Money is the ultimate servant. The more you earn, the more you can help others. I wanted to mention one thing, when I placed my order, and the order for the DVD of the 2004 seminar a couple of months ago which I loved, I was asked how I heard about Jim Rohn on the order form. I ticked the box that said I heard about him from a friend. This isn't strictly true. I was at a Seminar with Tony Robbins in London back in October 2004 which was a really awesome weekend, and Tony dedicated a few minutes of the Seminar to telling us how highly he rated Jim Rohn, so I just had to check him out, and wasn't disappointed Thank you so much for such a wonderful program -- you guys are doing a superb job! I was first introduced to the teachings of Jim Rohn by a friend of mine who's already been to several of his seminars over the years. The 2004 event that I purchased a few weeks ago has been an absolutely remarkable program! I listen to it every day, while in my car & at home. Just can't get enough of it. Actually I have not even started on the DVD's as I tend to listen more to the CD's. Things are going very well and my business is going from strength to strength. I think the combination of listening to tapes, reading good books, 52 week programme and going to seminars and training courses definitely makes the difference. Previously, I would just read a book or listen to CD's in the car, whereas now my mind is continuously on the right track! The other day I was reading one of Jim's 52 week sheets (week 33 or 34) on my way to a big meeting to see a client who is the Recruitment Manager for a very large group (on the train into central London I would add!). The subject of that week's programme was selling and building relationships. Now I've been in sales for 20 years, so I naturally think this information is not going to anything new to me since I have read all the books etc... However, when I read it, I start thinking "hmmm, I'm going to try that" and "yes, I will smile a lot more and be extra friendly when I meet the client" and "ok, I will listen intently and lean forward to show interest without interrupting" and so on. To cut a long story short, I did a great presentation, the client liked me so much that she took me for a coffee outside of the office and after a couple of days to check out our references has put in an order for 25 nurses! Although I had to negotiate a deal for her, it's the largest single numerical order we've had for over a year! If we perform, there will be a lot more to come. Not only that, but on my last three or four attempts to close a deal with a large publicly quoted group I have not (yet) got the business. You know what stuck in my mind when I went in there? It was something in the programme that said: "You don't sell to companies, you sell to people" Thanks to Jim, Chris and all of you from me! By the way, I bought the DVD because I heard "How to Have Your Best Year Ever" on a tape recorded at the MDRT in Atlanta 1998, which I bought in a six pack bundle of various speakers. I was intrigued by the title (good marketing!) although I had never heard of Jim Rohn. Since then I have listened to that tape 100's of times (it is the only one that was worth listening to in the six pack!) and it actually got me to Anaheim and onto the 52 week programme! Jim, "pound for pound" that talk is the best two hour speech I have ever heard! Have a great week! My wife bought a copy of "How to Have Your Best Year Ever" video tapes approximately 10 years ago at a seminar where Jim Rohn spoke. She was in Real Estate at the time, and we've watched the videos many times and love them!!! I just want to thank you, Mr. Rohn, very much for your work and all the inspiration you give to me. I first heard Jim speak over 20 years ago in Calgary, Alberta. I had a short conversation with him that changed my life. Because of that one single conversation, I moved to Japan and built a multi-million dollar publishing company. I am back in Canada now, but will remain a big fan.
