"The major value in life is not
what you get. The major value in life is what you become.
That is why I wish to pay fair price for every value. If I
have to pay for it or earn it, that makes something of me.
If I get it for free, that makes nothing of me." Jim Rohn

1. Where Do You Go For Your Intellectual Feast? by Jim Rohn (excerpted from
Leading an Inspired Life)
Pity the man who has a favorite restaurant, but not a
favorite author. He's picked out a favorite place to feed his body,
but he doesn't have a favorite place to feed his mind!
Why would this be? Have you heard about the accelerated learning
curve? >From birth, up until the time we are about eighteen, our
learning curve is dramatic, and our capacity to learn during this
period is just staggering. We learn a tremendous amount very fast.
We learn language, culture, history, science, mathematics...
everything!
For some people, the accelerated learning process will continue on.
But for most, it levels off when they get their first job. If there
are no more exams to take, if there's no demand to get out paper and
pencil, why read any more books? Of course, you will learn some
things through experience. Just getting out there – sometimes doing
it wrong and sometimes doing it right - you will learn.
Can you imagine what would happen if you kept up an accelerated
learning curve all the rest of your life? Can you imagine what you
could learn to do, the skills you could develop, the capacities you
could have? Here's what I'm asking you to do: be that unusual person
who keeps up his learning curve and develops an appetite for always
trying to find good ideas.
One way to feed your mind and educate your philosophy is through the
writings of influential people. Maybe you can't meet the person, but
you can read his or her books. Churchill is gone, but we still have
his books. Aristotle is gone, but we still have his ideas. Search
libraries for books and programs. Search magazines. Search
documentaries. They are full of opportunities for intellectual
feasting.
In addition to reading and listening, you also need a chance to do
some talking and sharing. I have some people in my life who help me
with important life questions, who assist me in refining my own
philosophy, weighing my values and pondering questions about success
and lifestyle.
We all need association with people of substance to provide
influence concerning major issues such as society, money,
enterprise, family, government, love, friendship, culture, taste,
opportunity, and community. Philosophy is mostly influenced by
ideas, ideas are mostly influenced by education, and education is
mostly influenced by the people with whom we associate.
One of the great fortunes of my life was to be around Mr. Shoaff
those five years. During that time he shared with me at dinner,
during airline flights, at business conferences, in private
conversations and in groups. He gave me many ideas that enabled me
to make small daily adjustments in my philosophy and activities.
Those daily changes, some very slight, but very important, soon
added up to weighty sums.
A big part of the lesson was having Mr. Shoaff repeat the ideas over
and over. You just can't hear the fundamentals of life philosophy
too often. They are the greatest form of nutrition, the building
blocks for a well-developed mind.
I'm asking that you feed your mind just as you do your body. Feed it
with good ideas, wherever they can be found. Always be on the
lookout for a good idea - a business idea, a product idea, a service
idea, an idea for personal improvement. Every new idea will help to
refine your philosophy. Your philosophy will guide your life, and
your life will unfold with distinction and pleasure.
To Your Success,
Jim Rohn

2. Vitamins for the Mind by Jim Rohn
Concentration
The best advice I ever came across on the subject of
concentration is: Wherever you are, be there.
When you work, work. When you play, play. Don't mix the two.
Give whatever you are doing and whoever you are with the gift of
attention.
On the way to work, concentrate on the way - not the work.
Pay attention. Don't just stagger through the day.
Vitamins for the Mind is a weekly sampling of original quotes, on a specific topic, taken from The Treasury of Quotes by Jim Rohn (TTOQ). TTOQ, a beautiful, burgundy hardbound book with gold foil lettering, is a collection of over 365 quotes on 60 topics gathered from Jim's personal journals, seminars and books spanning over 39 years. 3. From Motivation To Motive-Action by Denis Waitley
With the passing of every new year, each of us needs to understand
the magnitude of social and economic change in the world. In the
past, change in business and social life was incremental and a set
of personal strategies for achieving excellence was not required.
Today, in the knowledge-based world, where change is the rule, a set
of personal strategies is essential for success, even survival.
Never again will you be able to go to your place of business on
autopilot, comfortable and secure that the organization, state or
government will provide for and look after you. You must look in the
mirror when you ask who is responsible for your success or failure.
You must become a lifelong learner and leader, for to be a follower
is to fall hopelessly behind the pace of progress. The power brokers
in the new global arena will be the knowledge facilitators.
Ignorance will be even more the tyrant and enslaver than in the
past.
As you look in the mirror to see the 21st Century you, there
will also be another image standing beside you. It is your
competition. Your competition, from now on, will be a hungry
immigrant with a wireless, hand-held, digital assistant. Hungry for
food, hungry for a home, for a new car, for security, for a college
education. Hungry for knowledge. Smart, quick thinking, skilled and
willing to do anything necessary to be competitive in the world
marketplace. Working long hours and Saturdays, staying open later,
serving customers better and more cheerfully. To be a player in the
21st Century you have to be willing to give more in service than you
receive in payment.
These are the new rules in the game of life. These are the actions
you must take to be a leader and a winner in your personal and
professional life. By mastering these profoundly simple action
steps, you will be positioned to be a change master in the new
century.
Action Step Number One - Consider Yourself Self-Employed, But Be a
Team Player. What this means is that you are your own Chief
Executive Officer of your future. Start thinking of yourself as a
service company with a single employee. You're a small company that
puts your services to work for a larger company. Tomorrow you may
sell those services to a different organization, but that doesn't
mean you're any less loyal to your current employer. Taking
responsibility for yourself in this way does mean that you never
equate your personal long-term interests with your employer's.
The first idea is resolving not to suffer the fate of those who lost
their jobs and found their skills were obsolete. The second is to
begin immediately the process of protecting yourself against that
possibility – by becoming proactive instead of reactive.
Ask yourself these questions:
How vulnerable am I? What trends must I watch? What information must
I gain? What knowledge do I lack?
Again, think of yourself as a company. Set up a training department
in your mind and make certain your top employee is updating his or
her skills. Make sure you have your own private pension plan,
knowing that you are responsible for your own financial security.
Entrusting the government or an employer, other than yourself, with
your retirement income is like hiring a compulsive gambler as your
accountant.
You're the CEO of your daily life who must have the vision to set
your goals and allocate your resources. The mindset of being
responsible for your own future used to be crucial only to the
self-employed, but it has become essential for us all. Today's
typical employees are no longer one-career people. Most will have
five separate careers in their lifetimes. Remember, your competition
is a hungry immigrant with a laptop. Action Step Number One is to
consider yourself to be self-employed, but be a team player.
Action Step Number Two - Be Flexible in the Face of Daily Surprises.
We live in a time-starved, overstressed, violent society. Much of
our over-reaction to what happens to us every day is a result of our
self-indulgent value system, where we blame others for our problems,
look to organizations or the government for our solutions, thirst
for immediate sensual gratification and believe we should have
privileges without responsibilities. This condition is manifested in
the high crime rate and in the increase in violence in the work
place where employees blame their managers for threatening their
security.
I have learned how to be flexible in the face of daily surprises,
which is one of the most important action traits for a leader. I
really haven't been angry for about 17 years. During that time, no
one has tried to physically harm me or someone close to me. I've
learned to adapt to stress in life and reserve my fear or anger for
imminently physically dangerous situations. I rarely, if ever, get
upset with what people say, do or don't do, even if it
inconveniences me. I do react emotionally when I see someone
physically or emotionally abusing or victimizing another. But I’ve
learned not to sweat the small stuff.
The Serenity Prayer, "Grant me the Serenity to accept the things I
cannot change, the Courage to change the things I can, and the
Wisdom to know the difference.", is a valuable measuring tool we can
apply to our lives. Simple yet profound words to live by.

4. My Mentor Taught Me!
|
Hi Folks, Jim Rohn here. You know,
my mentor,
Mr. Shoaff, taught me that life puts some
of the more valuable things on the high shelf so that
you can't get to them until you qualify. Now, let
me explain...
If you want the things on
the high shelf, you must stand on the books you read.
With every book you read, you get to stand a little
higher. And the "biggie" phrase that had an impact on
me, "Success is something you attract by the person you
become.", forever changed my life.
Now I know you've heard
me say: "Success is not to be pursued, but to be
attracted by the person you become." Put your energy
into becoming a better you, the best you. Learn the
skills. Practice the skills. Attract the success.
And those of you who know
me also know that I say the journey of personal
development is also one of the easiest to neglect if we
are not vigilant, fighting against the natural, downward
pull of life. But there's a little something I want
to share with you that I am confident will get you as
excited as I was when I first heard about it. The
Success and Training Network -- TSTN.
A few
months ago I was approached with this unique invitation,
and I have to say that in all of my years (75 plus) this
is a turning point for not only the personal
development industry, but for television. You

now, this HAS
been attempted, but never achieved.
What TSTN has created is the

content ever created.

5. Jim Rohn Testimonials - June 20 - 26, 2006
Here are some of the dozens of testimonials and comments we
received over the past week from E-zine subscribers. To read more
recent testimonials and the over 2500 we have received from readers
over the past year, please go to: http://www.jimrohn.com
I have not begun the One-Year Success Plan as yet! I saw the program
advertised and knew that I would benefit greatly from it. Hence, I
placed my order. My primary and most immediate goal was to advance
to the management team of my company in my first 3 months as a
Supervisor. I am pleased to report I did it! The time, energy and
focus that this task demanded has inhibited me from really "sinking
my teeth into" the One Year Plan. I do, however recognize the vital
nature of the One Year Plan and the impact it will have on my life.
I have also registered with TSTN and I am already enjoying the
spectacular programming. Thanks ever so much for another chance to
learn and grow with this phenomenal group of Masters! I appreciate
your efforts and that of the team toward me becoming "the best that
I can be"!! I have already registered for the weekly free ezines and
I am also enjoying the "Success Minute Quote of the Day".
-- Donna Paul
I see tremendous personal growth in my life since I have begun the
One Year Success program and have watched both Weekend Events (2001
and 2004), and I know there is much "more" work for me. Thanks again
for all your help.
-- Marianne Urbanski
Really good Ezine this time, especially article number 1 and 2.
-- Barry Forrest
Thank you E-zine readers, for the sincere and kind words of
encouragement and appreciation you sent us this week! -- JRI
