The Five Major Pieces

The Five Major Pieces to the Life Puzzle

To have more than you've got, become more than you are. Success is not something you pursue (what you pursue will elude you); success is something you attract by the person you become.

Here are the five pieces of the life puzzle:

1. Philosophy

Philosophy is effectively "what you know" and "how you think". It is the major factor in how your life works out.

  • The Formula: A few simple disciplines practiced every day.
  • The Failure: A few errors in judgment repeated every day.
  • 2. Attitude

Attitude is "how you feel". While philosophy is logical, attitude is emotional.

  • Past: How you feel about the past (treat it as a school, not a club).
  • Future: How you feel about the future (approached with anticipation or apprehension).
  • Everyone: How you feel about others.
  • Yourself: How you feel about yourself (self-worth involved in everything).
  • 3. Activity

Activity is "what you do". Philosophy and attitude are potential, but activity makes it real.

  • Labor: The miracle of the seed and the soil doesn't happen without labor.
  • Plan: Do what you can. Do the best you can.
  • 4. Results

Results are "what you get". It's the harvest.

  • Measure: You must learn to measure your results often. Don't wait until the end of the year to find out if the plan is working.
  • Adjust: Results tell you if you need to change your activity or your philosophy.
  • 5. Lifestyle

Lifestyle is "how you live". It is learning how to live well.

  • Joy: Lifestyle is the joy of the design of life.
  • Culture: It is music, art, travel, and sophistication.
  • Sharing: It is learning how to share your bounty with others.
  • "Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines, practiced every day." — Jim Rohn
