Self-Education

The Power of Self-Education

Before I met my mentor, Mr. Shoaff, I asked him, "how can I become wealthy?" He asked me, "Have you read the book 'Think and Grow Rich'?"

I said, "No."

He said, "I suggest you get it."

The Difference

  • Formal Education: Will make you a living. It teaches you how to work a job, how to follow instructions, how to fit into the system.
  • Self-Education: Will make you a fortune. It teaches you how to think, how to solve problems, how to lead, and how to create value.
  • How to Self-Educate

    1. **Read Books**: Miss a meal if you have to, but don't miss a book. "All the books we will ever need to make us as rich, as healthy, as happy, as powerful, as sophisticated and as successful as we want to be have already been written."

    2. **Keep a Journal**: Don't trust your memory. When you listen to something valuable, write it down. A student is not just a listener; a student is a note-taker.

    3. **Learn from Personal Experience**: Review your day. Don't live the same year 10 years in a row.

    4. **Learn from Others**: Success leaves clues. Study successful people.

"Formal education will make you a living; self-education will make you a fortune." — Jim Rohn
